Kosdown Printing recently installed an MGI Meteor DP8700 XL – the first of its kind in Australia.

The MGI takes a sheet up to 330x1020mm, allowing the machine to print a full-colour sheet of eight A4 pages, duplex.

In addition to all the traditional offset printing paper and card, the MGI Meteor also prints on a wide variety of materials including:
• plastic cards such as hotel keys, gift and loyalty cards, membership cards
• Self-adhesives
• Laser guaranteed letterhead
• Card up to 400gsm
• Plastics such as PVC and Yupo
• Envelopes up to C4

The MGI allows short and long-run personalisation – either complete personalisation within the print or variable data onto letters and envelopes.

Combined with the full bindery at Kosdown Printing, we’ve been producing a range of material from one-off 600 page hard case books to tender presentations to short-run books and catalogues.

Ask us for a demonstration or for an MGI quote on your next job.

David Downie receiving the award
Kosdown Printing is thrilled to have won the 2013 FSC Print Services Award.

Kosdown was announced winner at a gala dinner last week in a category with stiff competition from Lonely Planet, K.W. Doggett Fine Paper and Scott Print.

In the last 12 months, Kosdown Printing has worked closely with Spicers to supply our clients with Australian Made FSC certified paper. For one client alone we commissioned Shoalhaven Mill to produce three million sheets of specially-made FSC certified paper.

FSC certified papers are traditionally associated with offset printing however as a FSC Chain of Custody holder, Kosdown Printing can produce your large and small format digital jobs under this important certification. Please talk to David Downie about producing your next digital print job on an FSC certified paper or board.

Kosdown Printing was awarded a Silver Medal at the 2013 PICA Print Awards.

The piece, an invitation to a race day, was designed and constructed at Kosdown.

Featuring a custom-made cloth covered box with a hand-cut foam insert to hold a pen. The piece also included a personalised invitation card produced on Kosdown’s variable data foiling machine.

Custom presentation boxes, ring-binders, slip cases, hand-made books and more – be sure to speak with Derek Downie the next time you need a special item made.

Kosdown Printing has been located in the City of Port Phillip in Rouse Street Port Melbourne for 26 years.

Since our win at the 2008 City of Port Phillip Business Excellence Awards in the area of Environmental Sustainability, we have enjoyed a closer engagement with both Council and with other businesses in the area.  When the Port Phillip Business unit asked us to speak about our experience of doing business in the City, we were more than happy to.  A happy side bar to the filming was establishing a working relationship with local production house Fancy Films.

installing the new VUTEk printer

Introducing the VUTEk GS3220, our latest acquisition and the printer that removes the limitations of print.

As you can no doubt understand, we get very excited about having a new printer enter our family, and this one brings digital printing to a new level.

Let’s start with colours: Four, six or six plus white. That’s impressive but when a machine can do them all in a single pass, that means there’s no problem with registration errors. All the inks fall in the same place making your displays look even better.

Then there’s the matter of substrates. The possibilities start with a single continuous roll up to 3200mm wide or two simultaneous rolls at 1500mm wide. Then we move on to boards which can be up to 50mm thick.

Think about a situation where you can print directly onto a perspex sheet and layer your images with a white block-out so that different images appear when the printing is front-lit or back-lit.

We’re excited because we can’t wait to see what our clients will do with all this new technology. It’s really going to change the way we think about displays for trade shows, advertising, and anything you can think of.

Oh yeah, and it takes at least 5 people to move it!
